We had no internet while in France so I am going to post these as a series of sub-posts so you don't get overloaded!
The trip down to Portsmouth did not start well as we were a little later leaving than anticipated. Tim had to get new tyres on his car this morning and trying to squeeze 13 peoples' luggage and some food into 3 cars was a challenge. Sam had hired a box for his car roof which helped, but we were tucked in between boxes and bags.
We were actually doing well for time until we hit the backed-up traffic heading onto the M3. After we got on - after an hour's wait - we had heavy rain which was scary with the wet roads and the high speed we were driving at and the low visibility. We made it to the boat with 30 minutes to spare!
It took a while to get the cars on - all jam packed. We dumped our stuff in our cabin and headed for food. Our kids were excited to sleep on the ferry - very different to our 2 hour trips to Calapan! Naomi and I had to share a bunk - not the largest sleeping area in the world. I didn't like sleeping in the motion of the boat, but the shower was great!
We arrived about 8 a.m. in France. It took ages to get off the boat. We picked up my Gran, who had flown from Guernsey, and headed on towards the house.
