Around the Corner

I am going through the book Sacred Marriage with a friend and we were talking about how marriage is a commitment you make not knowing what will occur on your journey together, not being able to see what is around the corner. This has been brought home to me this week. Some friends of ours - who have had a tough few years - have found out the wife has cancer and it has turned their plans upside down. They have exercised their commitment to each other in the view of us all.
Also, this weekend our senior pastor at the church we attend here, who was on his summer break with his family in the US visiting extended family, crashed his motorbike. He is in a serious condition, with possible permanent paralysis. Although his wife didn't know this was going to happen it will not affect her commitment to her marriage, to her husband.
And that's the point, commitment is a choice, an exercise of will, in the face of the unknown.
